Let me tell you a story.

This is not a happy story. Many stories I came to hear were not happy stories. But it is a true story. A real story. It is the story of a woman named Maya.

Maya was orphaned from a young age. Her father died when she was 7, and her mother when she was 9. Alone in this world at the age of 12 she knew something was not right with her. Her toes were swelling and she had blisters.  Never having left her village and having no one to care for her needs, Maya did not know what to call the ailments she was experiencing. She began losing sensation in her hands and feet. None of her relatives (She has 3 married brothers.) or village people cared enough to bring her anywhere for help, much less even tell her help existed in the world. But even still she was in a "good" set-up. Most people would recognize her ailments as leprosy and shun her, or alienate her from the community. But her "good" neighbors recognized that she could be useful, she could watch their children and keep their livestock while they were working or planting. So they took the necessary precautions to keep her alive, they would occasionally give her food or old rags for clothing. In tears she shared this with me. She shared the deep, abiding pain of knowing that she was only alive because she could be used. Hot tears began falling from my own eyes as she continued.

Forty-seven years she lived like this. Never knowing she had leprosy, only that over time she could no longer straighten her fingers, or lift her foot to take a proper step. Finally the leprosy had so deteriorated her feet and bones that she could no longer walk. For nearly seven years she remained in her village crawling on her hands, ulcers forming on her knees and the tops of her feet.

Marriage was never an option. Children were never an option. Love was never an option. Life consisted only of staying alive. But about 2 months ago a government campaign group came to her village. They like to visit the villages during election years to "gain new constituents" if you would. It's simple really, they give you citizenship, then you vote for them. Amazing how that works. Anyway, at this point they found Maya and worked for 3 weeks getting her citizenship. They told her about Anandaban Hospital, about hospitals in general. Until now she did not know that hospitals even existed.

Two weeks after gaining citizenship Maya made her way to Anandaban Hospital. 4 hours walking and then an 8 hour bus ride. "Not very far, there are just no roads," she said. So close for all these years. Blind in her left eye, no hands, no feet, and crawling on weak calloused, ulcer infected knees, she came. Fifty-eight years old, she came.
"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."
Hearing Maya's story was very hard for me. It doesn't have a "happy" ending. She made it to the hospital, this alone makes her one of the "lucky" ones. She is having shoes made, and may be able to walk. She now has knee pads*. She began treatment so the leprosy will  no longer be growing. Knowing this didn't make me feel any better. It didn't make the tears any less bitter.

Leprosy doesn't have a "pretty" face. There isn't poster child for leprosy that you can broadcast to gain tons of support and start a social justice movement. Helping a "leper" may not seem quite as glamorous as rescuing a young teenage girl from the sex trade, or wearing "RED" to help with the fight against AIDS. There isn't a simple quick fix. It takes months of treatment, often times surgery, and training for a lifetime of self-care to even touch the surface of what these people need. Not many people want to sign-up for that. Not many people want to address the shame, fear, and humiliation these people have dealt with for a lifetime. Not many want to invest into someone who is often past their "prime" in life. It's not easy.

Guni Maya
Even just hearing Maya's story left me very heavy. I had to take this to Christ. He had to show me that yes, her life, her story is a weighty one. But it is that very fact that I needed to see. She is valuable to Him. She carries weight , she means something. And not just something, but everything to Him. He loves her. He longs for her to come to Him, to find rest in Him.

After sharing her story with me the only words I could find were, "Tell her she is beautiful. She is so beautiful to me." With tears in my eyes and the biggest smile I could offer I watched as these simple words were translated to her. Smiling she returned my gaze and shrank back in shyness. In earnest to make her know the truth of these words, I placed my hand on her knee and affirmed in my juvenile Nepali, "Deri ramro, deri ramro." ("Very beautiful, very beautiful.") She looked up and smiled.

My prayer for Maya is this, that as she came to Anandaban, she also would come to Christ. That the refuge she found in the hospital would be just a glimpse of the refuge she may find in Christ. That she would find rest not just for her body but for her soul. That she would know the deep, abiding love of our Father.

*Imagine just for a moment what it takes to put on knee pads with no hands. There is no thumb to pinch the elastic to stretch it for a snug fit. It takes both "hands" to even get the elastic around her leg much less awkwardly "pull" it tight enough for it to even stay for 5 minutes. Imagine the effort to brush your hair. (Putting it in a ponytail by yourself is not even an option.) It's just easier not to get undressed than to dress every morning.

My new phone

I got my new new phone in, and all of the key work. I now have to take pictures of people for my ID thing. Oh, they sent me another sd card, so Bekah took one. Poor Pop, he asked first, but then said Bekah could have it. I may try and get him one for Fathers Day though.

I have TMJ, and am supposed to be going to the Dr. to see about getting a splint. The dentist said that the TMJ is prolly what is keeping my headaches from goiong away 100%. So a precious few will get to hear me talk with a lisp while wearing the splint. I mumble already, so I will really be inaudible with this thing. But I am sure it will be months from now before I actually get it.

When you see a man carrying a cross down, you KNOW that HE WILL NEVER COME BACK!!!

We went hiking. It was adventurous and dangerous, but not hard. I got scratches, as did Bekah and Jacob, however B.J. had no dirt or scratches.

We got "lost" according to some. Were were just near the path, but some would not let us pillage forward. Needless to say, a few in my company would not be able to be Pilgrims, nor hitchhikers, nor mountain goats, nor graceful under pressure.

It was fun though!!!On to Tunica Hills!!

1Jo 3:14-We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.

Apparently Bekah gets bored at work and feels the need to post dumb things on my blog. That was not me. At first I thought it was some thing from Youtube. I have been trying for days to post a video, but it won't show up. If you want an interesting watch, look up "Parkour", "street climbing", or "David Belle." It is one of the coolest sports in the world if you ask me.

Every 1 in 8 bikers get brain damage from a bicycle crash every year. So that limits us to a team of 7, just kidding.

1. I got a new bike.

2. My bike is malfunctioning.

3. This is crazy, and Pop has to fix it. It is fixed temporarily.

4. It is white with a little bit, but not too much pink. It's pretty.

5. Bekah and I had a TON of fun just now. We did something that is of questionable legality, but fun none the less, possibly annoying, but that is left to an others discretion.

We will be biking daily now, a minimum of thirty minutes, building up everyday. Water will be our best friend, as well as a cushioned bike seat (vital). Looking forward to next Saturday, everyone must mark their calendars. I would be game for 5:30 or 6:00 in the morning, temperature wise, but I don't think I would enjoy the dark. 8:00 or 9:00 is good too though. We can jump in the pool afterwards to cool off. Well my typing is slowly getting worse and worse as I grow more delirious. 10-4 good buddies.

Quotable

What terms something as a "quote"? Does someone have to write it down in a book of proverbs, or can it just be a line from a magazine you pick up somewhere? Could it be a statement worthy of repeating from a movie? Well I found a quirky statement that I feel could be a quote:

Walking is just controlled falling.-Charles M. Plishka

Should someone rely on an animal to bring them happiness???

Alright...II am now at my peak...to add to the schedule, I will now be completing my English III class. Yes Deanna, this means that for the next six weeks, I will see you every Thursday for at least a few minutes. I also have gotten down to crunch time for studying for the ACT, and I hate my Business class...the woman is spastic, ADD or something. I have more important things to do with my time now...so I will leave you with the worst thing that is now on my plate...we got a dog.......

"I just can't wait to be freeeeeeeeeeee"

I am going to be incomprehensibly, overwhelmingly, massively, ridiculously, unenviably, fathomlessly, incognizably, alarmingly, fearfully, besettingly, horribly, and uncontrollably busy for the next three months, so don't expect too many posts.

Thank you all for being my friend!!

My day has dramatically improved here in the last few hours. I find such great comfort in the counsel if my friends and elders. I was reminded only moments ago of how sweet it is to have relationships in the light. The people God has surrounded me with are here for me when I need it most.

Bob and Sharon: What you said Sunday night was great. It was exactly what I needed to hear. I have applied that advice to other areas of my life, but it didn't even occur to me to put it into practice here. I talked to my mom too.

Lauren: I love the way that God shows us similar things at the same time. I feel so privileged to get to grow in the Lord with you as my friend.

Deanna
: You speak such truth, and are a constant reminder of how God can move and work. You spur me on to a deeper relationship with Him, and with others in the body of Christ. Thank you for the friend that you have been, and for the things you have done for me (i.e. going to the mall with me the day before Christmas eve, the roses, wii, tofu-less smoothes...)

Hol: Thank you for the joyful spirit that you bring to everything. Thank you for your setting the example in college, and thank you for being my friend. (Do you remember when we were accountability partners, those were interesting days. :)

Mrs. Michelle: I love your company so much, and I love watching movies with you when I get a chance. I greatly appreciate the wisdom that you impart, and the grace you speak it with.

Deb: I love you so much. You set an example for me in ways you may not even see. I enjoy your company so much, and fellowship that comes so easily when with you.

Amber: (If she even reads this) I still want to know who put the spoon in the bathroom. I love your company, and the comic relief that you provide. God just flows out of you, and it makes conversation great, not to mention insightful.

Jamie: In all your quirky-ness you prove to be true and earnest in seeking after Christ. I love that about you, you are so humble, yet so bold, a great addition to the body of Christ.

Mrs. Heather: You have such a sweet spirit, and I love to just sit and talk with you. You are so easy-going and peaceful that it makes it a joy to spend time with you.

BJ: Your faithfulness is nearly incomprehensible. You stand so strong in seemingly unending solitude ( if that is the right word, you get it). It is a privilege to walk in Christ with you.

Bekah: You are so sweet to me, the seemingly quintessential older sister. I can see God working in you, and it is so honoring.

There are so many other people who set such great examples of wisdom, steadfastness, long-suffering. I love every member of the body of Christ, and am so excited to have the privilege of spending the next year walking with them in Christ.

I won't be posting much for the next few weeks, I am going to try my hardest not to look at a computer screen, except maybe to check my e-mail. Get

over it.

My work schedule:

Sun. 3-10
Mon. off
Tue. 8-3
Wen. off
Thu. 11-5
Fri. 7-3
Sat. 9-4

My Friday 15:

Fifteen Food Habits
Why do we need a description, itn't it self explainitory?

1.Umm...I don't like tons of ketchup, but I like tons of Ranch and Hot Mustard.

2.I don't like large forks or spoons, except for at Deanna's when she makes me a smoothie, then I like to use her really big spoon that she always makes it with, and spoon little bits on the end of it. I really like that!

3.No spinach or mushrooms (spinach and artichoke dip is different)

4.No onions unless I don't know they are there.

5.I will try it if you don't force it on me, let me get up and get up and get it of my own free voalition.

6.I only like tomatoes when they are ripe, a yellow or green tomato is unnatural. I like them only on a burger ( as long as it doesn't make it soggy), or sliced with salt, no red sauces, only spagettii every once in a while.

7.Dustin Hauffman grates my nerves, I wish I could call down fire, and smite him off the Earth...anyway...no chocolate icecream, in anything, or with anything, no chocolate shake either.

8.I like to rip my food, rather than use a fork, I only do it sometimes, when my parents are not around, they won't let me.

9.I like to have one bannana to every waffer in bannana pudding.

10.I like to take a bite of bannana and break it into the three pieces that it naturally falls into, it is really neat.

11.I can't think of anything, and I am tired.

12.Get over it BJ.

13.Get over it Bekah

14.and Lauren

15.and Holly and Jamie.

My attempt at improving a dull day...

So, I went to the doctor today. I have lost a pound. Whoo-hoo.*rolls eyes* But as I figured, I have a cold, cough, and that is where I get the headaches. And I had to miss school to have someone tell me this. I missed Friday as well, but 99% of the school missed because they showed up and were told to leave because the electricity was out due to tornados. So it is automatically excused.I finished The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom. I think I am about to try and read The Anatomy of a Hybrid, try being the key word. I have been studying for the ACT, but I am having a hard time finding interesting news articles. So far all I have found is about elephants with "self-awareness", a informing yet boring article on Macworld, and in informative article on New Jersey and gay marriage. Then there is your unending supply of Bush-bashing articles, but that is dull, so I move on to entertainment, and all I find is celebrity marriage crises, and their babies. Then there is sports, and I simply could care less about all the basketball, football, and baseball games over the ENTIRE US. So I suffice by reading the weather, and Science stuff, and get my daily quota in. Ok, I need to read up on Esther.

Cereal and milk...

I got my shoes, and my shirt, I like the shoes, but they don't look like Bobs, I like Bobs. But they are still shoes, and are still black, and they will still protect my feet. I get off of work at 10:00 tonight, I think, I'm not too good with military time. We could maybe do something, if anyone is up for it. If not, I know Lauren and Bekah and Jordan have some planning to do.

October 21, LSU is having an open house, and I get bonus points for going, intwo of my classes. It is ascience thing, and you go to the Mary Bird Perkins center, and some other Lab. It's free, and you need only a ride there, and back, they bus you everywhere else. I don't want to go by my self. Please someone volunteer to come with me...PLEASE. and not someone who thinks it is borring, but if no one else will than you could come. But it sounds like fun, It is from 9:30-2:00.

I was tired.

I went to bed at 3:15pm yesterday. Only one person called and woke me up. I did the whole, fake awake thing, then went right back to bed, and slept until 6:30am today. Thats all I have to say.

Oh, my shirt came in, but my shoes did not, so I e-mailed them today.

Thursday, September 7, 2006

I went to bed at 6:00pm yesterday, and slept late, until 5:45am this morning. I am so tired now, I prolly won't do well on my tests if I don't go to

sleep now. I have to make some notecards really quick first. I go to work for the first time tomorrow. I don't want to, I have to miss our prayer meeting. Darn McDonalds. I am going to be so lonely, no one I like ever goes to McDonalds. Maybe, kids in our congregation go sometimes. I prolly have to work Sunday nights too. Oh well, I can't complain. I have my first Psych test tomorrow, and my first Physics test, and a spelling test (I-B-U-P-R-O-F-E-N.) Mrs. Michelle told me to write the words 5 times each, but I don't have time. I need to go study, see yall this weekend.

Just for Holly...

So, Bekah wants Oreos, and thanks to Holly, I want to test the power of the tower. Sadly enough we couldn't even make a tower with even two rows of cookies. I think the people on TV cheated, there are way too many variables, for example: 1. the cream may be thicker on one side than on the other, 2. there may be a hairline crack in one side of the cookie which causes them to tilt to one side, 3. The cookie may have crumbles which makes it slippery and more succeptable to sliding. All of these things were not taken into account when Bekah and I purchased the Oreo's. So, now they are sitting on my floor in the package getting soft due to moisture in the air. Dumb Oreo's. * Jordan with a look of disgust in remembrance/ failure of the Oreo tower.*

He shall bring forth his righteousness as the light...

I got my schedule worked out, and I am going to have off tuesday thru thursday starting next week, meaning I have to work sunday evenings ( really stinks, I know). But hopefully McDonalds will call me back soon. I like my schedule, and I am doing the fall play production. My new physics and chemistry teacher looks just like Kip from Napoleon Dynamite ( he even lets some kids call him that), and his name is Mr. Losness, reminds everyone of the lochness monster. I have Art I which is fun, I like it, I get to sit next to Anne the foreign exchange student from Germany, she is pretty cool. The teacher talks about your art as though she is complementing a 2 year old, but she is nice. She did the whole, has any one seen my glasses thing, and they were on her head, yeah it was funny.

I found a verse in Ephesians I want to share with you:

"For you were once in darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light( for the fruit of the spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth) finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. And have no fellowship with unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to think about such things which are doone by them in secret. But all things that are exposed are made manifest through the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. Therefore He says:
Awake you who sleep
Arise from the dead
And Christ will give you light.
See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 1And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of God.

It kinda brings together all that I have been learning in 1 John and in John. It works perfectly with the house church and relationship mindset.

I love you guys, enjoy your week, I am praying for you.

So...we just had like ten gazillion people over here, and all the clean-up is done, and the dishes are drying. I feel ...nothing. My feeling don't matter so why care to talk about them. That is what matters, why do I get upset, sad, frustrated, aggrivated, stressed, happy,ect.. I just am. My spirit is as it should be, my man is healthy, I have a right standiing before God, and I am abiding in Him, what is there left to feel. Every time anyone says the word feel in referance to anything not in the physical I think of the emo world, and the mockery of the emo girl on stupid videos. But, yeah, anyway...

Money is the root of evil.

So, I have a job at Winn-Dixie and I am able to save money now. I am saving money to go to the Dominican republic, and to buy a Mac. I looked at them and the memory thing is trippin' me out because I would not be able to store that much on the comp. itself. I think I would put alot of my pictures on a flash drive, and I could keep my music on it. I am looking at the Mac Book, I am not sure how big of a screen I want that is why I am leaning towards the smaller screen. I could spend like $700 more and get it in like a deep purple fushia color, or a green, or orange, or brown (classy). I don't know because it would kinda be wasteing my money. I also want to get a camera when I get the computer. I just want a portable camera, but one that will take quality pictures. I don't want a thick camera, and I am hoping tecnology will improve by the time I get one. It will be one to two years before I actually purchace any of these items.

Wishful thinking

So, I didn't have to get up early today, and I don't have to go to work, I have my lesson for tonight done, and I don't feel like folding clothes right now, I want to go read, but the book I started a small print, and it is tripping me out because it seems like it takes 20 minutes to read one page, then there is always my bible...I should...if I say I will go do that now, I prolly won't , I will prolly go lay on my sisters new waterbed bymyself for the first time, annd see if I like it, then I will eventually find the strength to read my bible. It shouldn't be like that, it should be me waking up early to do it, not trying to convince myself to read it, I want to but I am too lazy to actually put forth an effort when reading it to understand every word, and that is the point, to get something out of it. This is borring now, so I am moving on. Bye for now, I never know when I am going to leave another message, I don't even check my e-mail every day, muchless type something. You ask so much (Estaba Relajado!!)

I am so pathetic, I lowered myself to asking Bekah what time a TV show comes on, I think I will fold cloths while I watch that.(Little House on the Prarie)

Palete verde del mananza con carmelo

I was thinking about my friends today. Actually tonight. Well, I am glad God gave me the friends I have. He gave me a sister, and I think if ihe haden't then he would have had to do alot to teach me all the lessons He has tought through her. Then he gave me a friend that doesn't require much, just someone to call, or talk to for hours, and who will always pray with me when I need it. But then it has been a huge lesson on just how to be her friend because I am continually humbled in her presance (which is a good thing). That keeps me from taking our relationship for granted. Then there is the friend who always has something to say. And I like that at times, because I get rebuked and complimented in the same sentance sometimes. I have fun with her. Some would say that she brings out the worst in me, but if the people who say that would really think about it, the worst is brought out not by her but by me, and it shows in all my relationships. I am seeing in my own mind the things God is changing in me though. He has changed the way I think about people, and life in general. As of right now I have decided to slow down, and take things one day at a time, I am still very young so I can take my time growing up.
